The Cycle

Since I heard about body farms, I have thought about donating mine. I haven't done it yet, but I find them fascinating. What is a body farm, you ask? A farm where human bodies are donated to the pursuit of forensic science. The donated bodies are placed in fields and trunks of cars where they are left to decay, like they were victims of homicides. They are studied so the information may one day help investigators solve a homicide investigation. This is where the film, The Cycle, begins with Meg (Deborah Ann Woll), a doctor and scientist who works on such a body farm. The police come to her with a body found near a multiple murder scene. They would like to know the cause of death and if and how it's related to the killings. It's somewhat similar to The Autopsy of Jane Doe. This is an atmospheric horror/thriller that looks like something David Fincher would make - it's that good. The colour palette is grey. Meg is forced to deal with her past and the disappearance of her father when she was very young. Actor Deborah Ann Woll is simply fantastic, as is her police detective counterpart, actor Jeffrey Donovan. I didn't know anything about the film before I watched it, just that it was something I should see. I recommend you do the same - let the mystery be just that. Catch this killer streaming on Shudder or rent it from Movies 'N Stuff when available.
